 Podcasting Help Minimize

So, you're just beginning with Podcasting?
Please read all the info below so you have an understanding of what Podcasting is and what is required to receive a Podcast from News Radio KPEL.

What is a 'Podcast'?
'Podcasting' allows you to receive automatic downloads of News Radio KPEL exclusive content (in MP3 format) directly to your PC using freely available software called a Podcatcher. You can have the News Radio KPEL podcast automatically loaded on to your MP3 player.

Think of Podcasts as a FREE subscription service to News Radio KPEL that allows us to deliver interviews and programming you may not have been able to listen to during the actual radio broadcast. You can still come to kpel1051.com and pick them up if you want. Or you can subscribe and have them waiting for you when you are ready to listen! All audio is in MP3 format so you can listen with your favorite MP3 player or your Windows Media Player on your PC.

Do I have to have an iPod?
No, Podcasts work on almost all MP3 players, but one is not required. If all you want to do is listen from you laptop or desktop you don't need a portable MP3 player for our Podcasts.

What Do I Need To Receive A Podcast?

  • You will need a connection to the Internet.
  • You will need a Podcast Aggregator (Podcatcher) such as iTunes or iPodder.
  • You will need a media/audio player such as iTunes, Windows Media or other MP3 compatible player.
  • If you want to transfer audio to your MP3 player you will need the audio management software that came with your MP3 player to transfer the Podcast to it.

How Does It Work?
News Radio KPEL will make available selected audio features in MP3 format which a Podcatcher, will download to your computer and store on your hard drive. You may then listen using Windows Media Player from your desktop or laptop computer or have the audio feature (Podcast) transferred to your personal MP3 player so you can take the audio with you. This allows you to become "untethered" from your desktop or laptop computer. You'll be able to listen when and where you please without requiring an Internet connection.

Note: You will need to add the News Radio KPEL Podcast station to your Podcatcher in order to begin receiving the downloads.

How Is Podcasting Different From Listening Online?
Podcasting differs from broadcasting and webcasting in how content is transmitted; instead of a central audio stream, listeners download audio files automatically in MP3 format to their computer so they can listen at any time or place.

Is Podcasting Free?
Yes Podcasts are FREE! There is no charge for downloading a Podcast from News Radio KPEL. Of course you'll have to supply your own computer, connection, MP3 player, etc.

What Are The Benefits Of Podcasting?
As we mentioned before, you can listen to selected audio features and programs known as Podcasts which are downloaded automatically to your computer. Listen when you want to listen.
