Millions Going To Farmers Flooding Their Fields
The government is doling out $20-million to farmers in eight states, including Louisiana, to create habitats for migratory birds whose usual Gulf wintering spots may be fouled by the massive BP oil spill.

New Orleans to host Final Four in 2012 New Orleans has been selected to host the NCAA Men's Final Four college basketball tournament in 2012. The Crescent City hasn't hosted the event since 2003. SEC Commissioner and chair of the NCAA Men's Basketball Committee Mike Slive applauds the city's recovery from Katrina. The Women's Final Four will be held in the New Orleans Arena in 2013. Trial postponed for brother of New Orleans Congressman Jefferson A federal judge has agreed to postpone a trial for the bribery case against the brother of New Orleans Congressman William Jefferson. U.S. Distrcict Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon moved the start of Mose Jefferson's trial from March 23rd to June 1st.

Jeanerette police officer shot by sniper Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal says a Jeanerette police officer, who was shot by a sniper during an apparent ambush early Monday morning, had been threatened previously. Ackal says it's believed the man who made the threats is the person who shot Officer Clay Landry in the back as Landry was responding to a report of a dumpster fire. The sheriff says authorities are hoping to make an arrest soon. Landry is recovering from surgery, and is listed in serious but stable condition.

Hammond City Council Votes Against Installation Of Red Light Cameras
(Hammond, LA) -- The Hammond City Council voted four-to-one Tuesday against a proposal to allow a company to install red-light cameras at various intersections around town. While Police Chief Roddy Devall believes the cameras would help reduce red-light running, others, including some on council, are concerned it's just away for companies like Gatso USA to make money without any real concern for improving traffic safety. Cheaper Gas Prices Continue To Be Name Of Game
(Baton Rouge, LA) -- While the fall in oil and gas prices aren't doing anything to help the coffers of state government, motorists are smiling all the way from point-A to point-B. The average price of regular in Louisiana continues to decrease and is well below two-dollars a gallon at many stations. Triple-A says the statewide average price of regular dropped another two-cents overnight to two-dollars-four-cents, 92-cents cheaper than a month ago. Regular is currently averaging two-dollars-eight-cents in Baton Rouge, two-14 in Lafayette and a buck-94 in New Orleans. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 7:33 AM
