Pointe Coupee Teenager Arrested on Gun Charge
A Pointe Coupee Central High student has been arrested after
numerous witnesses say they saw him with a gun on campus. The
16-year-old boy is in custody, but authorities have yet to locate
the alleged weapon.

Wildfires Blaze in Northern Louisiana
Thirty to 40 wildfires are keeping authorities in La Salle and
Catahoula Parish on edge, but State Ag and Forestry firefighters are
containing the wind-whipped blazes and rainy weather is also helping
douse the flames. Clay Mayo with the Ag Department says
there's evidence the fires were set intentionally. At one point, homes were threatened and people evacuated.

Man Arrested and Charged With Murdering His Wife

Baton Rouge police arrested 37-year-old Greg Lamar Harris of Baker and charged him with second-degree murder in the February 20th fatal stabbing of his wife, 34-year-old Chaquita Tate.  She worked as a defense attorney in the capital city.  Harris is accused of stabbing his wife 38-times in her downtown law office.  Police say forensic evidence was recovered from Harris' car and home and that it links him to the crime scene.

Bird Takes Out Plane Engine

A bird, believed to be a seagull, took out an engine yesterday morning on a Delta flight from New Orleans to Atlanta.  The incident occurred during takeoff from Louis Armstrong International Airport.  The plane immediately returned to the airport without further incident.  None of the 191 passengers or crew were injured.

Houma-Based Company to Undergo a Multi-Million Expansion

4 :12 a Bobby Jindal, Governor of LA
Governor Jindal says Performance Energy Services, in Houma, will undergo a multi-million expansion; meaning hundreds of new jobs. The governor announced the news at a Monday afternoon press conference..: (The company will develop 5 acres at the Port of Terrebonne, as a topside deck and marine repair yard.)
Performance Energy has operated in Louisiana since 2000, specializing in spool piping, structural fabrication, sandblasting & painting, and offshore installations. Jindal says the company is making a major capital investment that will mean good jobs with good benefits.
Jindal says the state assisted Performance Energy in making the expansion with tax rebate incentives. He says it's a good return on investment for Louisiana..: (PES will start construction later this year, and have the 5 acre expansion done by mid-2010.)
