Monroe Resident On Water-Landed US Airways Flight
There's a Louisiana connection to yesterday's dramatic US Airways
jet crash-landing into New York's Hudson River. Former Monroe
resident and Neville High graduate Andrew Gray was aboard that plane
when it skidded into the icy water. Andrew's mother, Mary Gray, says
she actually got a post-rescue phone call from her son BEFORE she
knew there had been a plane crash.
Mrs. Gray says Andrew tells her it's a miracle that no one fell off
the wings of the US Airways jet as it floated in the icy river
current. The Grays now live in Fayetteville, NC.

Trial Date Set for Former Congressman Jefferson
A federal judge in Virginia has set a trial date for former
Congressman Bill Jefferson -- May 26th. With all the delays up
until now, we asked former US Attorney Harry Rosenburg if this
really is it. Is Jefferson, who faces bribery, racketeering and
conspiracy charges, really going to face a jury in May?
Rosenburg says perhaps we'll all finally get an explanation of the
$90-thousand in marked cash found in Jefferson's freezer.

Check-Skipping Former Miss Teen Lousiana USA Gets Plead Bargain
A former Miss Teen Louisiana USA, arrested for dining and dashing
from a Bossier City restaurant without paying her bill last fall, is
getting a plea deal. 19 year old Lindsey Evans will do community
service in exchange for the charges being dismissed.

Louisiana's First Female Supreme Court Justice Takes Chief Justice Oath

She was the first woman to be elected to the Louisiana Supreme Court in 1992.  On Monday, some 17-years later, 63-year-old Catherine "Kitty" Kimball was sworn in as the court's first female Chief Justice, and she's promising to shake things up.  Kimball succeeds Pascal Calogero who retired on December 31st after serving 18-years as a member of the court for 36-years, the last 18 as chief justice.

streets of New Orleans fighting crime, are going to work as New
Orleans cops. Sixteen guardsmen will begin a special NOPD police
academy; an accelerated 12 weeks instead of the usual 20.
