Millions Going To Farmers Flooding Their Fields
The government is doling out $20-million to farmers in eight states, including Louisiana, to create habitats for migratory birds whose usual Gulf wintering spots may be fouled by the massive BP oil spill.

New Stadium On The Way
The old Alex Box Stadium, which will give way next year to a brand-new, state-of-the-art Alex Box Stadium, will host one last NCAA regional baseball tournament, thanks to LSU's capture of the SEC Tournament crown Sunday. The Tigers defeated Ole Miss, 8-2, to earn the opportunity to host one of 16 NCAA regionals. LSU's seeding and the three other teams in the regional will be announced this morning at 11:30. The last regional held at Alex Box was in 2005.

Weekend Shooting Suspects Being Sought
Police are looking for suspects in weekend shootings that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old man. Authorities say the shootings happened at a residence in the six-thousand block of Bleuberry Street early Saturday. Baton Rouge Police Corporal L'Jean McKneely says Brandon Augustus was pronounced dead at the scene. McNeely says a 20-year-old woman, whose name is not being released, was wounded and transported to a hospital. Police say witnesses told investigators a white SUV may have been involved in the shootings.

Man Guilty Of Eight Felonies
A jury found a Baton Rouge man guilty Saturday of eight of nine felony counts in connection with a three-day crime spree in May 2006. Joshua Ray "Lips" Johnson was convicted on five counts of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated rape. Authorities say Johnson and five other men participated in the crime spree near LSU. One of those men, 20-year-old Thedrick Edwards of Baton Rouge, was sentenced in December to mandatory life terms on rape and kidnapping charges. Four other men await trial on charges that include armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Sentencing for Johnson has been set for June 24th.

New Southern Head
Southern University's Baton Rouge campus has a new chancellor. He's 57-year-old Kofi Lomotey, who will come from Fisk University in Tennessee, where he's serving as vice president and provost. Lomotey was chosen from three finalists for the position after Southern University System President Ralph Slaughter recommended him to the Board of Supervisors. The other two top candidates were Ray Belton, chancellor at Southern University at Shreveport, and Alcorn State University for Academic Affairs Napoleon Moses. Lomotey is slated to take over as SU chancellor July 1st, succeeding interim Chancellor Margaret Ambrose.

State Supreme Court Rules On Wind and Water Case
The state Supreme Court rules that an insurance company isn't obligated for the full value of a Louisiana home demolished by a combination of wind and water during Hurricane Rita. The ruling was in favor of the state's property insurer of last resort, Louisiana Citizens.
