Standoff Ended A standoff with police ended peacefully yesterday in Norwalk. Police waited outside of a home yesterday morning to arrest 43-year-old Albert Amantea on charges related to an outstanding warrant connected to a child sex abuse investigation. Amantea was arrested after he walked outside of the home to get a phone that had been placed there by police. Norwalk Police Chief Ed Kuhl says Amantea is accused of allegedly abusing multiple children ages five years and younger. Amantea is a former police officer from New Orleans.

Joint Transportation Committee and the federal stimulus package
The legislature's Joint Transportation Committee looks at the federal stimulus money, expected to put 308 million dollars into road and bridge projects within the next few months. State transportation Secretary William Ankner says a list of 11 projects is being submitted for approval today:
The Joint Budget Committee will also have to okay the projects, but Ankner says the work will start within 120 days of those approvals, and be ready for traffic within 2 to 3 years. The list includes widening I-10 in Baton Rouge, completing a section of I-49 north in Caddo Parish, and replacing the Larose Bridge in Lafourche Parish.

Convicted Killer faces another charge
Convicted serial killer Sean Vincent Gillis pleaded guilty yesterday to the 2nd-degree murder of Marilyn Joyce Nevils. Gillis was indicted in July 2004 for her killing. He left her body on a Baton Rouge levee in October 2000. Gillis is already serving a life sentence for another murder.
