State Fair of Louisiana resumes today
After a two-day break, the State Fair of Louisiana resumes today in Shreveport. Fair president and general manager Chris Giordano says attendance has been great and activity has reflected no lag at all
from the current state of the economy. Giordano says people see the annual event as an escape from the nation's economic problems. Giordano says attendance is on pace to break last year's State Fair
record of more than 405-thousand.

Quarter-Million-Plus Cast Ballots In Louisiana Early Voting

(Baton Rouge, LA)  --  If folks were hoping to avoid long lines by casting their ballots during Louisiana's seven-days of early voting prior to next Tuesday's presidential election they got a big dose of hurry-up-and-wait disappointment.  The Secretary of State's office says well over 260-thousand people voted during the one-week period that ended Tuesday at 6 p.m., more than double the number who voted early in the 2004 presidential election.  East Baton Rouge Parish tripled its early-voting turnout record as nearly 32-thousand residents, or about 12-percent of the parish's registered voters, cast ballots by the deadline.

Young Man Killed Near Home

(Baton Rouge, LA)  --  Not far from his home a young Baton Rouge man died early Monday night in the city's latest murder.  Police say 23-year-old Larb Singleton the Third was gunned down in the 59-hundred-block of Cadillac Street two blocks from his residence.  Singleton died shortly after being rushed to the LSU Earl K. Long Medical Center for treatment.  Investigators said Tuesday that whoever shot Singleton also stole his car and attempted to set it on fire on Avocado Street.

Shooting At New Orleans Motel Leaves Guest Dead

(New Orleans, LA)  --  Deadly violence Tuesday night at a small 30-room Travelodge motel on New Orleans east side.  Police say a 25-year-old guest was found dead in his room from several gunshot wounds.  The incident occurred just after 7:30 p.m.  The man's identity was not released.  Investigators worked overnight to develop suspects in the slaying at the motel located along Chef Menteur Highway and to determine a motive for the murder.
