Millions Going To Farmers Flooding Their Fields
The government is doling out $20-million to farmers in eight states, including Louisiana, to create habitats for migratory birds whose usual Gulf wintering spots may be fouled by the massive BP oil spill.

Gov. Jindal Hope for Bastrop Mill Layoffs Governor Jindal says the state is doing what it can to find jobs for those individuals who were laid-off when the International Paper Mill in Bastrop closed its doors last week. Jindal met with I.P. and local leaders today in Morehouse Parish. He says I.P. is willing to lease a part of the facility for another company to use. Walker Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash Sunday
(Baton Rouge, LA) -- State Police at the Baton Rouge post say a Walker man was killed early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle accident in Livingston Parish. Troopers say 22-year-old Jordan Manow died about 3:45 when his vehicle left LA-1019, reentered the roadway and then flipped end over end. A passenger in the Chevy pickup, 23-year-old Joshua Sibley, also of Walker, escaped with minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. Investigators say Manow was NOT wearing a seatbelt and suspect he had been drinking prior to the accident.

Average Price Of Regular In Louisiana Still Falling
(Baton Rouge, LA) -- Here's something motorists have to be thankful for with Thanksgiving just days away. Gas prices continue to fall here in Louisiana and nationwide. The average price of regular in the Pelican State fell to a dollar-89 today, down two-cents from Sunday's average. Just a month ago, regular was averaging two-75 statewide. Triple-A says regular is averaging a dollar-94 in Baton Rouge, a buck-98 in Lafayette and a dollar-79 in New Orleans. Monday, November 24, 2008 8:24 AM

Baton Rouge Father And Son Killed In Covington House Fire
(Covington, LA) -- A Baton Rouge man and his young son were killed early Sunday morning when fire tore through a home in Covington they were visiting. State Fire Marshall Butch Browning identified the two victims as 40-year-old Andrew Crawford and three-year-old Brandon Crawford. He says both were overcome by smoke and were trapped in the fire that occurred in the 73-thousand block of Military Road. Three other occupants of the home suffered burns and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is being investigated, but started under the patio of the home. Monday, November 24, 2008 8:23 AM

Louisiana Governor Tours Iowa
(Des Moines, IA) -- The governor of Louisiana is talking to conservatives in Iowa as some political analysts speculate about him possibly running for President in 2012. Louisiana Governor Babby Jindal spoke over the weekend in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and other communities about the declining state of the nation's culture and the need for Republicans to do good work in the coming years. Jindal toured flood damaged parts of Cedar Rapids on Saturday. He refuted questions by reporters about his political future, saying that it's too early to worry about the 2012 election.
