Teacher Guilty Of Inappropriate Relationship With Student
A former DeSoto Parish school teacher pleads guilty to having an
inappropriate relationship with a male student. The 23-year-old
Shreveport woman got a suspended four-year sentence, with 7
years on probation.

Teen Dies While Trying To Rescue Dog
(Coushatta, LA) -- State police say a 13-year-old boy was killed Monday near the Red River Parish town of Coushatta as he tried to rescue a dog. Troopers say Clayton Barnard, who had the day off because of a parent-teacher conference at his school, was out fishing with a friend and had hitched a ride in the back of a pickup truck. A stray dog that accompanied them jumped from the back of a pickup and into the roadway on Louisiana Highway 371. Officials say after Barnard bailed out of the pickup and tried to grab the dog, he was struck by an oncomimg dump truck. The driver of the dump truck was not injured. Barnard was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

BR Police Officer Arrested
(Baton Rouge, LA) -- The Baton Rouge Police Department reports one of its own officers has been arrested. Authorities say Corporal Donald Bailey, a 14-year veteran of the police force, is accused of agreeing to have charges against an inmate at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison dismissed in exchange for 12-thousand-dollars. Bailey, who's 49-years-old, was arrested Monday night following an investigation by Louisiana State Police. He faces charges of corrupt influencing and malfeasance in office. Bailey was the coordinator of the police department's Targeted Violent Offender Program.

Man Accused Of Raiding Pharmacy Safes
(Kenner, LA) -- Jefferson Parish deputies have arrested a Kenner man who's accused of stealing from pharmacy safes while posing as a repairman. Authorities say 25-year-old Joshua Paul Fleetwood faces multiple charges of pharmacy burglary, one count of attempted pharmacy burglary and two counts of drug possession. Officials say the burglaries took place in August at two CVS pharmacies in Metairie and one in Kenner. Fleetwood allegedly identified himself as a repairman sent by the CVS corporate office and requested access to safes used to store prescription drugs that qualify as controlled dangerous substances. Pharmacists reportedly noticed drugs missing after Fleetwood left the stores. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 6:46 PM

Man Arraigned After Being Accused Of Killing Mother
(New Orleans, LA) -- A New Orleans man accused of killing his mother appeared in court Monday. Thirty-two-year-old Leonard Nellum faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 52-year-old Darlene Nellum. Police say Leonard Nellum repeatedly hit his mother in the face with a chunk of concrete during an argument Sunday night. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Nellum was ordered held in lieu of 300-thousand dollars bail.
