Man Arrested On Child Pornography Case

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Baton Rouge says a St. Francisville man, 52-year-old Alan Bevers, was sentenced Thursday by federal Judge Frank Polozola to 35-years in prison after pleading guilty last September to two-counts of sexual exploitation. Bevers admitted to producing child pornography on two separate occasions involving a 13-year-old female and an eight-year-old female.

No Gillis Jury Yet

Nearly three-weeks into the process of trying to seat a jury to hear the Baton Rouge murder trial of Sean Vincent Gillis, not a single juror has been selected to hear the case. The 45-year-old Gillis, who has allegedly confessed to killing eight-women in south Louisiana, is on trial for the 2004 strangulation death of 43-year-old Donna Bennett Johnston of Baton Rouge. The state wants Gillis executed if he's found guilty.

Gas Prices

Holding steady, at least for now. So goes the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Louisiana. Triple-A says the price of the fuel remains at three-95 a gallon, or a dollar-eight higher than a year ago. Premium is averaging just under four-forty-one a gallon. That?s a dollar-19 higher than a year ago. As for diesel, it?s averaging almost four-68 a gallon across Louisiana, a buck-86 higher than on this date last year.

More Recall Petitions

A fourth recall petition has now been filed against a state legislator since lawmakers voted to double their pay last week, effective the first of next month. This petition was filed against House Speaker Jim Tucker, a republican from New Orleans. Petitions have also been filed against Representatives Steve Pugh of Ponchatoula, Franklin Foil of Baton Rouge and Joseph Lopinto of Metairie. More are expected in the Secretary of State's office.
