Plaquemine Hospital Get Cash Advance from State
It seems that bailouts aren't only happening in Congress. State health
officials have put up $150,000 to ensure that employees
of River West Medical Center in Plaquemine can cash their paychecks.
Dozens of paychecks issued to workers at the Iberville Parish
hospital on Friday bounced. State officials said they could not
allow the parish's only hospital to collapse. Meanwhile River West
is transfering all patients to other facilities--leaving only its ER
open and running.

Oakdale to Lay Off Workers
More Louisiana layoffs in the news. Boise Cascade in Oakdale says it
will temporarily stop making plywood, due to the slump in
homebuilding. Company representatives say they don't know yet how
many will be layed-off or for how long.

Northwest Louisiana Faces Cold Tuesday Night
The Northwestern part of our state is bracing for an ice storm warning that
takes effect tonight at 6 for Caddo, Claiborne, Bossier, DeSoto,
Union and Webster parishes. Shreveport National Weather Service
forecaster Nick Fillo says temperatures will drop sharply as evening
sets in and rain will turn to ice. He says that could lead to downed
power lines and tree limbs. The ice storm warning is in effect from 6 tonight until noon
tomorrow.

Incurance Commissioner Wins Court Victory
Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon won in court today--at
least the suit seeking to stop the state from cutting off department
funding because he won't release some e-mails to the legislative
auditor--e-mails dealing with Citizens Insurance Corporation.
Donelon says releasing them violates the confidentiality
requirements of his office. But at the end of this month, Donelon
will be in violation of the law requiring he comply with the
legislative auditor's requests.

Allen Parish Prison Guard Arrested
The Allen Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a prison guard,
charging 19-year-old Jesse Jordan assisted with yesterday morning's
escape by 3 inmates. No definite sightings of the trio yet, though
St. Mary Parish authorities are investigating a carjacking in
Berwick yesterday, and suspect one of the escapees--29-year-old
Cecil Stratton--may be involved.
