Pre-Trial Judgment Motion Rejected in Grambling Suit
A state judge rejects a request for a pre-trial judgment
against Grambling State University in the termination of former head
football coach Melvin Spears, Jr. Spears claims in a lawsuit that
Grambling breached his contract when he was fired in 2006. No trial
date has been set.

Elderly Man Mudered By Next-Door Neighbor
Alexandria police continue to investigate the murder of an
83-year-old man early this morning, allegedly shot by his next-door
neighbor. Police were called to a disturbance, and found Oather Horn
dead on the floor, next to his blood-soaked bed. Neighbors say
48-year-old James Givens, Jr. "went crazy"--yelling he'd kicked in
the door, shot and beat Horn and that he'd do it again.

Laid Off Paper Mill Employees Can Use Federal Aid
550 International Paper mill workers, let go last fall in Bastrop,
can now take advantage of federal aid. LAkisha Johnson with the
Louisiana Workforce Commission says information sessions will be
held Thursday and Friday at the Morehouse Visitors Center.
The Trade Adjustment Assistance program offers scholarships for
retraining, job search allowances and help with relocation expenses.
