Senator Vitter Blasts FDA for Suppressing Avastin Information

U.S. Sen. David Vitter today sent a letter sharply criticizing the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research for the FDA’s failure to respond to Vitter’s repeated inquiries regarding the agency’s pending decision to take the drug Avastin “off-label” for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

Lookout Continues for Abuducted Tennage Girl
State and local authorities believe a 15-year-old Tangipahoa Parish
girl has been abducated and held against her will. Sheriff's
spokesperson Dawn Panepinto says 15-year-old Angela Squatrito was
last seen Sunday in Salem, Illinois, with 45-year-old Christopher
Jones. Jones is also from Tangiphoa Parish. The two were seen in a red 2001
Ford F-150 with Louisiana license plates.

Republican Congressman Steve Scalise is reaching across party lines,
inviting President Obama to view firsthand what still needs to be
done for Katrina recovery. Scalise says the President indicated his
interest, and now he's working with the White House to firm up a
date.

Proposed Nucor Plant Hits Speedbump
Another bump in the road to getting a 2-billion dollar pig-iron
plant built in St. James Parish. A grain storage company on adjacent
land has sued to halt issuance of the EPA permits to Nucor. Zen-Noh
Grain claims air pollutants from the plant could pose a health risk.

Bossier Parish Man Arrested for Cattle Theft
Two Bossier Parish men are accused of cattle rustling. Ag
Commissioner Mike Strain says 42-year-old Gregory Bickham of Benton
and 52-year-old James W. Roberson of Elm Grove were booked with four
counts of livestock theft within days after the theft took place.

Nucor Still Mulling Move to Louisiana
Nucor's CEO said yesterday the recession could halt plans to build a
new pig iron plant in either St. James Parish or Brazil. But
Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret says
environmental permits are still in process, and the state has done
all it can to convince Nucor to come here:
Moret adds that Nucor had net profits last year of $1.8 billion
dollars, so he doubts the project is really off the drawing board.
