Money Stolen From New Orleans Police Department's Evidence And Property Room

New Orleans Police Superintendent Warren Riley says an investigation
has revealed that about 200-thousand dollars in cash has been stolen
from the police department's evidence and property room. Riley says
the cash was in envelopes that contained money seized in connection
with several criminal cases. He says suspects have been identified.

Nine Month Investigation Yields Drug Arrests

Nineteen people face charges as a result of a drug roundup in
Webster Parish that was a result of a nine-month investigation.
Parish sheriff's deputies and Minden police obtained 24 arrest
warrants stemming from the investigation.

GM Update

General Motors now announces its plant in Shreveport will be closed by mid-2012.  Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover says he's optimistic that jobs at the plant will be saved somehow.  Northwest Louisiana officials are adding up the economic toll of GM's coming closure of the Shreveport truck plant. They say it's a loss of over 7-million dollars in tax revenue, along with the hundred-million dollar payroll. Now, this facility turns out Hummer H-3 and H-3T SUV's and GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado pickups. Hummer is being bought by Chinese manufacturer Thengzhong, and hasn't committed to having the   H-3 and H-3T made at the Shreveport facility beyond 2010.

All Time High Heat In New Orleans

The summer heat has been especially intense of late throughout
Louisiana. Yesterday, New Orleans' Audubon Park recorded a
temperature of 104 degrees-- an all-time high. New Orleans'
Lakefront Airport recorded a high of 100.

Deadly Mobile Home Fire

A Mobile home fire in Stonewall, south of Shreveport, has claimed
the life of a 21-year-old mother and her 6 year old daughter. De
Soto Parish deputies believe smoke inhalation killed them. A
35-year-old man has been hospitalized, while 3 others living there
escaped unharmed. The home burned to the ground.
