Millions Going To Farmers Flooding Their Fields
The government is doling out $20-million to farmers in eight states, including Louisiana, to create habitats for migratory birds whose usual Gulf wintering spots may be fouled by the massive BP oil spill.

I-10 Twin Spans on hold after construction worker's death The most expensive public works project in Louisiana history is now on hold, after the death of a construction worker on the new I-10 Twin Spans between New Orleans and Slidell. Ten men were tossed into Lake Ponchchartrain when a girder gave way, only nine came back up. Transportation Secretary William Ankner says work is stopped until the safety of workers is assured. Ankner says safety is always top priority on the $800-million twin bridge project.

LA Renaissance Festival to take place in Tangipahoa Parish for the next 6 weekends A part of Tangipahoa Parish becomes 16th Century Europe, over the next 6 weekends, for the Louisiana Renaissance Festival. Just off U.S. 190 near Hammond, the festival features costumed characters, and historic fun for all ages. Co-founder Alvon Brumfield says the entertainment you'll find is both unique and interactive. The LA Ren-Fest is every Saturday and Sunday through December 7th.

Incumbent Bill Jefferson predicted to win re-election for congressional seat UNO political science professor Ed Chervenak predicts an easy win for incumbent Bill Jefferson, in a party runoff between him and former New Orleans TV newswoman Helena Moreno for the Second District congressional seat. Chervenak says Jefferson's experience trumps Moreno's fresh face. Jefferson's federal trial on bribery and corrpution charges is set to begin in early December. Mental health evaluation ordered for man who stabbed his two sons A mental health evaluation is ordered for the Baton Rouge man who allegedly stabbed his two sons to death on October 5th. The man is accused of killing the boys, ages 2 and 8, to spite his estranged wife. A judge wants a psychologist and a psychiatrist to examine him by December 5th, before he can stand trial.

Ray Nagin plans to vote for Congressman Bill Jefferson for re-election New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin says he plans to vote for Congressman Bill Jefferson for re-election, however, he says it's not an endorsement. Nagin says it comes down to who has more experience. Jefferson is under federal indictment on corruption and bribery charges.
