Millions Going To Farmers Flooding Their Fields
The government is doling out $20-million to farmers in eight states, including Louisiana, to create habitats for migratory birds whose usual Gulf wintering spots may be fouled by the massive BP oil spill.

DEQ Investigating Caddo Cow Deaths The state Department of Environmental Quality says its investigation into cattle deaths in southern Caddo Parish is focusing on an unidentified substance found in pools of rainwater near the natural gas well where the cows died. DEQ regional manager Otis Randle says it's believed the cattle drank from the pools. Nineteen cows were found dead Tuesday.

No Suspects ID'd in Suspected Serial Killings Wondering what's the latest on the search for a suspected serial killer in the Jennings area? Jennings police chief Johnny Lassiter says it's been three years since the first of seven bodies was discovered, and despite all-out efforts by a task force, no suspects have been ID'd. One thing all seven victims had in common; traces of cocaine on their clothes. All the victims led what could be called an at-risk lifestyle, often involving drugs and/or prostitution.

Newsprint Plant Closes In another an sign of tough times for the media industry, Boise-Cascade has made it official--their DeRidder newsprint plant which has been idle since February 9th is now officially closed. 95 hourly and 10 salaried jobs are now gone.

Robbery Suspect Shot
A Baton Rouge armed robbery detective on stakeout shot and killed a
robbery suspect near a Family Dollar store there. The stakeout was
due to a rash of armed holdups in the area.
