Potential Candidate to Test Vitter
A challenge may be developing to Republican U.S. Senator David
Vitter's re-election bid in 2010. Democratic state Senator Eric
LaFleur of Ville Platte is reported to be considering entering the
race. Louisiana Democratic Party chairman Chris Whittington says
LaFleur and others must weigh the decision carefully.

Other possible challengers for the U.S. Senate seat include former
U.S. representatives Chris John and Don Cazayoux, and businessman
Jim Bernhard, all Democrats.

Weekend Weather
The National Weather Service in Slidell
says another spell of severe weather is ahead -- through this
afternoon and evening. Forecast Chris Bannan says expect over an
inch-and-a-half of rain, with high wind gusts and even possible
tornados. He says the system should sweep through quickly, but the
potential for flooding remains high.

Bannan says once the system passes, we should enjoy clear and cooler
weather tomorrow and Sunday.

State's Major Cities to Get Money
U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu says the state's major cities will
receive 25-million dollars to make Louisiana more energy efficient.
The money is coming to Louisiana through the Recovery Act. Landrieu
says the money is designed to "modernize facilities and services so
we use less energy and use it smartly."
