Authorities Looking For Fake Policeman

Lafayette police are looking for four men impersonating police officers. Corporal Paul Mouton says the group went to an apartment at 1400 North Bertand, told the man inside they had a report of drug activity in his apartment and needed to search it. They were dressed in dark colored t-shirts, khaki pants, dress shoes and wore badges hanging on chains around their necks. Mouton says after not finding anything in the apartment, the men left without taking anything. Lafayette detectives checked with all area law enforcement agencies and nobody was working at this apartment complex. Detectives believe the suspects' motive was possibly drug related. Mouton says if a plain-clothes officer shows up at your door, you should request an officer in uniform be present or call Lafayette P-D to confirm an officer is supposed to be there.

Town Hall Meeting Held On De-Consolidation

(Lafayette, LA)  --  A member of the Lafayette City-Parish Council held a town hall meeting Monday to allow residents to air their views on the idea of splitting city and parish governments.  The council is set to vote next month on whether to allow voters to decide whether to de-consolidate Lafayette Consolidated Government, which has been in existence since 1996.  Councilman Keith Patin [[POTT-ann]] says he organized the meeting in response to complaints from constituents about the consolidated government.  Patin says the chief complaint centers around the fact that four members of the nine-member council represent mostly rural areas of the parish, but vote on matters that affect only those who live within the Lafayette city limits.  Patin supports putting the issue on the November ballot, but it's not certain whether the proposal has the six votes necessary to make that happen.
