Education-Reform Advocacy Group Believes Technology Is The Answer To Decreasing The Drop Out Rate

An education-reform advocacy group says too many Louisiana children are dropping out of school, and radical thinking may be needed to deal with the problem. Dr. Phillip Rozeman, chairman of the group, known as Education's Next Horizon, says more than eight percent of students drop out of school because of cynicism and apathy.  Rozeman says he believes the answer lies in technology. He says embracing new teaching methods that let students get their hands on technology could stimulate students to want to learn and excel in school.

Dan Borne' To Speak At TEA Party Meeting Thursday

The TEA Party of Lafayette is having a town hall meeting at the South Regional Library on Johnston Street this Thursday night.  It's Guest speaker will be Dan Borne'.  Borne' is President of both the Louisiana Chemical Association and the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance, and he'll talk about the effect that the Obama Administration's new tax proposals on the manufacturing and energy industries will be.  The meeting will be from 6 till 7:30...doors open at 5:30.

Deputy Back At Work

A St. Landry Parish sheriff's deputy has been cleared of a police brutality charge. Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Deputy William D. McCauley Jr. may still be charged with malfeasance when he worked as a Eunice police officer, but Guidroz determined through his own investigation that McCauley is innocent. In December, the sheriff put him and two other then-Eunice officers on unpaid leave after their arrests. McCauley's  charges stem from a man claiming the deputy severely beat him.

Multiple Burglar Sentenced

A 32-year-old Evangeline Parish man has been sentenced to 24 years
at hard labor, after admitting to more than a hundred burglaries.
Believe it or not--that was a plea deal. James Anthony Fontenot pled
guilty to 9 burglaries and avoided a life sentence as a habitual
offender.

Saints Player Visiting Lafayette

New Orleans Saint Darren Sharper will be at the Lafayette Health Club tomorrow launching his signature "Sharper Shake" shirts. He'll meet fans, sell and autograph his exclusive shirts. Sharper will be at the Lafayette Health Club tomorrow from 3 to 6. Then he'll head to Shaker's nightclub in downtown Lafayette and hang out there from 10 to two in the morning.
