Jindal Warns of More Budget Cuts
The governor's office has informed university presidents and
chancellors they could be facing state budget cuts of up to
30-percent to balance the budget for the fiscal year that starts
July 1st. Higher Education Commissioner Dr. Sally Clausen says this
could lead to thousands of lay-offs, four-day school weeks and
increases in tuition. Clausen says campus leaders must submit their budget cut proposals
by the end of this month.

Delcambre Woman Killed in Housefire
A housefire takes the life of a Delcambre woman. Fire investigators
say the blaze apparently started near a space heater, located close
to a sofa in the living room. Firefighters found the body of Anna
Sonnier in the home's kitchen. Fire Marshall Butch Browning reminds
us all to keep space heaters 3 to 6 feet away from anything that can
burn.

Upcoming Lafayette City-Parish Council Meeting Cancelled
Tuesday's meeting of the Lafayette City Parish Council is cancelled after
The Daily Advertiser failed to print the agenda for the meeting. Under law, if
the agenda isn't printed at least two days before the meeting exluding
holidays and weekends, the meeting... can't be held. All items that
would have taken up at the cancelled meeting will wait until the next meeting
on February 3rd.

Rayne Police Bust Drug Ring
Rayne police say they busted a large drug ring. As a result, three men were arrested in a
Rayne house early Monday morning. They were found with less than a pound of marjuana,
crack cocaine, some ecstasy pills and three handguns.

Freeze Warning for Friday Night
A freeze warning is in effect for the entire state tonight, as a
wave of frigid weather continues to make an impact on most of the
eastern U.S. State climatologist Barry Keim says the upper half of
Louisiana needs to be concerned about pipes, while all Louisiana
residents should take care of the plants and pets.
Keim says relief is on the way, as overnight lows will be in the
40's starting tomorrow night, with highs reaching the upper 50's and
low 60's at least through Tuesday.
