Two Eunice City Council members sue mayor for defamation
Two Eunice City Council members are going to court, suing the mayor for defamation. They claim Mayor Bob Morris went on local radio and called them--quote "an unholy surrealist obstructionist team."
Morris's defense? Free speech under the First Amendment. A court hearing is set for December 5th.

Female student at Lafayette Middle arrested for attacking teacher
A female student at Lafayette Middle was arrested today after she attacked a teacher. Police say they don't know what prompted the alleged assault by the 14-year-old, but school officials say she has now been suspended, and they will recommend she be expelled.

LA gas prices average $2-per-gallon
Louisiana's AAA says the statewide average price of gasoline is now at $2-a-gallon; it has fallen by half since an all-time high in July of $4.01. Fuel analyst Don Redman says these falling gas prices are great for consumers, but not necessarily so for the economy. Redman says consumers are saving from $20 to $80 a month on gasoline. Redman predicts regular gasoline will average well below two-dollars a gallon by Thanksgiving.

LA nearly leads nation in childhood obesity
Louisiana is near the top of another "bad list," this one for childhood obesity. A new study suggests that banning fast-food ads on TV could reduce the number of obese young children by 18-percent, and the number obese older kids by 14-percent. More from L.N.'s Jeff Palermo. Pam Romero, Coordinator of the Louisiana Council on Obesity Prevention, says watching too much television in general could be a stronger link to childhood obesity than fast-food commercials.

Suspects In Multiple Burglaries Identified

(New Iberia, LA)  --  The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office says DNA evidence has led investigators to identify a suspect in multiple residential burglaries in New Iberia.  Authorities say jewelry recovered by investigators has linked Rodney J. Grant has to burglaries that took place in July, August and September.  Grant was arrested in September in connection with a burglary that occurred at a residence on Colgin Street, and is currently held in the Iberia Parish Correctional Center.  Officials say 24 other burglaries being investigated may have been committed by Grant.
