Acadiana Braces For Possible Major Hit
Emergency preparedness officials in Acadiana are activating some emergency plans in anticipation of the possible arrival of Tropical Storm Gustav in Louisiana. Gustav is close to regaining hurricane strength, with top sustained winds now at 70 miles per hour. It's located about 80 miles east of Kingston, Jamaica, and is forecast to enter the Gulf of Mexico early Sunday. Lafayette City-Parish officials plan to meet today to discuss traffic flow issues concerning I-10, I-49 and U.S. Highway 90. Officials say they stand ready to put more plans into action once Gustav enters the Gulf. Thursday, August 28, 2008 7:14 AM

Pump Prices For Gasoline In Louisiana Holding Steady
Whether it's the calm before an end to the run of falling gas prices statewide or just a one-day thing, Triple-A says fuel prices in Louisiana look about the same as they did yesterday. Regular is still averaging three-58 a gallon. That's 30-cents lower than a month ago. But, depending on where Tropical Storm Gustav heads in the days to come and whether it grows into a major hurricane and disrupt oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico will likely tell the tale of whether gas prices start climbing again after falling since mid-July when new record highs were set.
