Red Light Cameras Expanded

Amid ongoing debate, Lafayette's red light camera program is being expanded. As of midnight, June first, cameras at the intersections of Camellia at Kaliste Saloom, Camellia at Settlers Trace and Congress at Guilbeau will be activated and civil citations will be issued to red light runners and speeders at those intersections.

Durel Awarded in French Sister City

City-Parish President Joey Durel has been awarded in Lafayette's sister city of
Le Cannet, France for his work in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the
Marquis de Lafayette's birth. He was given the Marianne d'Or, or Golden
Marianne. The award is usually awarded to French mayors, and has only been  
awarded to two American mayors before now.

Gas Prices

The  price  at the gas pump took another slight jump overnight.  The
average  for  self-serve   regular,   according   to   Triple-A,  is
two-34-point-4 a gallon in Louisiana, up a penny from yesterday and
up more than four cents from last week.

Spending Plan For Public School Districts Put On Hold

A  nearly 3.3-billion-dollar spending plan for Louisiana's 69 public
school districts is on hold.  Thursday, a Senate panel agreed to put
off  debate  for  a week while officials are asked to try to come up
with a new plan.  Lower  student  enrollment  and other factors mean
some school districts will get less state money under the plan.

Hurricane Sales Tax Holiday This Weekend

Tomorrow  and  Sunday,  Louisiana  residents  can  purchase  certain items  to  prepare  for the coming hurricane season--without  paying state sales taxes. Items  eligible  for state  sales  tax-free  purchase  this  weekend include  non-electric  food  storage  containers,  portable  radios,
batteries,  storm  shutter devices, flashlights, portable generators and fuel tanks.
