Admidst Budget Cuts, Legislature Has Yet to Cut Theirs
To balance a 341-million-dollar state budget shortfall for the current
fiscal year, many departments had to taste the "budget
axe"...however the state House and Senate have not made any cuts to
their operating budgets. House and Senate leaders say cuts for the
fiscal year that starts July 1st are pretty much inevitable, though
they cannot yet say where cuts would be or how much would be cut.

Mardi Gras Kicks Off.... in D.C.
Annual Mardi Gras in D.C. festivities get underway tonight. LSU
political science professor Dr. Wayne Parent says the yearly event
is always huge for Louisiana. There are Mardi Gras parties scheduled in DC tonight, tomorrow
night5 and Saturday. District 5 Congressman Rodney alexander is
chairman for the festivities.

Vitter to Visit Gitmo
U.S. Senator David Vitter and at least three other Republican
senators who have questioned President Obama's executive order to
close down the U.S. detention camp at Guantanemo Bay, Cuba, plan to
visit that facility Monday. Vitter has introduced legislation to
bar the release of any of the detainees into U.S. communities.

Escaped Allen Parish Inmate Still Loose
Cecil Stratton, the 3rd of a trio of inmates who escaped from the
Allen Correctional Center early Monday morning is still in the wind.
His sister, however, is behind bars on a warrant accusing her of
aiding the jailbreak. Daniel reeder, captured in Shreveport Tuesday
night, is in the Hunt Correctional Center after being booked in
Berwick for an alleged carjacking. Troy Hargrave turned himself in
in Iberville Parish yesterday morning.
