State Sen. Cravins Heading to Washington
Despite losing his congressional bid to Congressman Charles Boustany in
November, State Senator Don Cravins Junior is going to Washington.... to
work for Senator Mary Landrieu.. He has been hired to head the
staff of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, a
panel Landrieu will soon chair. Landrieu says Cravins' legislative
experience and work to help small business make him well-suited for the
position.... Cravins says the position will have him working closely with the
Small Business Administration. Cravins' departure from the Legislature leaves it up to state Senate
President Joel Chaisson to request a special election to fill the
District 24 Senate seat.

FEMA Extends Gustav and Ike Housing Deadlines
At the state's request, FEMA is extending the deadline for providing
temporary housing to Gustav and Ike victims. FEMA spokesman Andrew
Thomas says Governor Jindal asked for the extension, which runs
another 8 to 12 weeks, so if you need housing help, apply now by going to ww.fema.gov or calling 800-621-FEMA.

FBI Launches Hiring Blitz
Looking for a good paying job filled with action and adventure--or
at least one that requires you wear a suit? Well, The FBI has launched a
nationwide hiring blitz. Special Agent David Welker says some positions
don't require a college degree, though
some do need applicants with solid educational backgrounds.
Welker says currently there are no FBI openings in Louisiana, but
that could change quickly, so check out fbijobs-dot-gov.

Hardy Wants School Takeovers
State Representative Rickey Hardy is asking the state to take
over three failing schools. He sent
Louisiana Education Superintendent Paul Pastorek a letter asking
that N.P. Moss Middle, Alice Boucher and J.W. Faulk elementary schools
be run by the state instead of the school board.

Federal authorities continue to search a Terrebonne Parish marsh
today for evidence from the PHI helicopter crash Sunday that killed
8. At least one "black box" recorder has been recovered.
