Iberia Robbery

One man is in jail, the other running after an armed robbery at Penny Wise Store in New Iberia.
Captain Wendell Raborn says it happened around 2 this morning. Deputies showed up with the accused robbers still in the store. Moses Bernard the Third is in jail. Investigators are looking for 17-year-old Dewayne Bernard of New Iberia.

Crawfish Season Doing Better Than First Thought
The crawfish season in south Louisiana was predicted to be one of
the worst on record, thanks to a dry summer and two hurricanes last
year. But Mark Shirley, an aquaculture specialist with the LSU Ag
Center, says things have improved a bit in the last month, with
larger crawfish supplies leading to lower prices. Retail prices for south Louisiana crawfish average about $2.50 per pound live and $3.50 a pound boiled.

Lafayette Parish Has Ozone Problem
Lafayette does not meet federal ozone requirements. That's according to the
State Department of Environmental Quality. They told the EPA that Lafayette
is one of eleven parishes, and the only parish in Acadiana that doesn't meet
new federal ozone standards. DEQ spokesman Rodney Mallett says the
EPA has the final say. Those designated out-of-compliance will have to take measures to
reduce pollutants--including having all cars checked for smog
emissions.

Louisiana GOP to Debate Primary Voting
It's liable to get hot when the Republican State Central Committee
gathers in Shreveport tomorrow, as the GOP will discuss allowing
independents to vote in their federal primaries. State party
chairman Roger Villere says those favoring the proposal argue that
independents in Louisiana are generally conservative, and their
votes should be allowed for Republican candidates.
