Acadia Parish Crash Kills Three
(Iota, LA) -- Three people died in a multiple-vehicle crash near the Acadia Parish town of Iota over the weekend. State Police say a Nissan pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Timothy Lowry of Jennings was southbound on Louisiana Highway-97 when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Ford sedan. Lowry and a passenger in the sedan, 27-year-old Alicia Fruge [[FROO-zhay]] of Jennings, were killed. Troopers say an 18-wheeler traveling south hit the passenger side of the sedan following the initial crash. The driver of the sedan, 41-year-old Howard Labbe Jr., of Lake Charles, suffered fatal injuries. State Police say they're not certain which crash killed Labbe. Monday, January 12, 2009 7:37 AM

Three Die In Crash In Saint Mary Parish
(Franklin, LA) -- State Police say three people died Sunday morning in a crash in Saint Mary Parish. Troopers say 39-year-old Todd Vincent of Erath was driving a pickup truck south on Louisiana Highway 318 when he veered into the oncoming lane and slammed into a station wagon driven by 41-year-old Priscilla Williams of Franklin. Williams, her 15-year-old son and 51-year-old Leroy Williams were killed in the collision. Vincent is being treated for moderate injuries. He faces charges of driving left of center and driving without a valid license. Troopers say alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash, but toxicology tests are pending.

Smoking Teenager Accidentally Starts House Fire A rouge cigarette was the cause of a house at 120 Castle Row in Lafayette this morning. The owner, Heidi Jarrell was there with her two children, and they made it out with no injuries. A teenage male living in the home had been smoking in the garage, and did not put his cigarette out properly. Jarrell's garage and car were destroyed, and her living area took smoke damage.

SBA Closing Disaster Relief Offices and Important Application Information! The U.S. Small Business Administration is closing nine Disaster Loan Outreach Centers across the state, including an office in Carencro. That office will close on the sixteenth. For most small businesses and non-profits, there is still time to apply for assistance for Ike and Gustav. Below is importany information for applicants.
The deadline to apply for property damage from Hurricane Gustav was December 3. However, small businesses and most, private non-profit organizations affected by Hurricane Gustav have until June 2, 2009 to apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL). These loans are to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage.
For victims of Hurricane Ike, the filing deadline to return applications for property damage is January 12, 2009, and the EIDL deadline is June 15, 2009.
Individuals and business owners may obtain information on SBA disaster loans and center locations in Louisiana by calling toll-free (800) 659-2955, e-mailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov, or visiting SBA’s Web site at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance. Hearing impaired individuals may call toll‑free (800) 877‑8339.
Applicants may also apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure Web site at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.
Disaster victims should first register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) by calling (800) 621-3362, or visit their Web site at www.fema.gov.

Boustany Discusses Healthcare Reform With his recent appointment to the House Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Charles Boustany will be on the front lines of hammering out a health care reform package. He says that his medical experience will bring a different perspective to the debate. Boustany says that bi-partisanship is needed to pass meaningful health care reform, and that he expects it to be a "big part" of what Congress will be doing in the near-future.
