June 2009 Was One of The Dryest Junes In State History
Despite heavy showers yesterday, the shortage of rain this month has been one for the record books--but was it THE dryest June ever? State climatologist Barry Keim says June 2009 comes in at the 3rd dryest ever--behind June 1930 with 2/3 of an inch of rain, and the 1936-record holder--just a half an inch. Keim says ordinarily, June is a fairly soggy month. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 9:50 AM

2,000 People Still Living In FEMA Trailers
A month into the 2009 hurricane season, more than 2,000 Louisiana
families are still living in FEMA trailers--many of them since after
Hurricane Katrina in 2005. FEMA Gulf Coast coordinator Janet Woodka
says new funds are now available to help solve the housing problems
keeping those families in trailers.
Woodka says the first priority is getting victims of Katrina and
Rita out of the trailers and into permanent housing, then moving on
to those hit by Gustav and Ike.
