The penalty phase of the Sean Vincent Gillis murder trial recessed early Monday afternoon when one of 12 jurors hearing the case became ill. Testimony is scheduled to resume today. Gillis, whom authorities say has confessed to killing eight south Louisiana women, was convicted Friday night in Baton Rouge of the 2004 strangulation of 43-year-old Donna Bennett Johnston. Since Saturday, the prosecution and defense have been presenting testimony to influence the jury's decision on whether the 45-year-old Gillis should be put to death or spend the rest of his life in prison.
