Arizona Senator John McCain canceled a planned Wednesday night visit to New Orleans because of expected bad weather in the area. He was slated to meet with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal who has been considered on a short-list of possible vice-presidential candidates, though Jindal has steadfastly said he is not interested in the post. McCain was also going to visit an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico to show his support for ending the moratorium on drilling along the Outer Continental Shelf. But, that too was canceled after more than 419-thousand-gallons of fuel oil spilled into the Mississippi River when a freighter rammed a barge near New Orleans splitting it in two.
