The government is doling out $20-million to farmers in eight states, including Louisiana, to create habitats for migratory birds whose usual Gulf wintering spots may be fouled by the massive BP oil spill.

LSU Chancellor Says Program Cuts Necessary

(Baton Rouge, LA) -- LSU Chancellor Michael Martin says some course programs will have to be phased out as the university moves forward in the midst of large state funding cuts. Martin says LSU is developing a strategy that will include a more business-like approach in operations, with the goal of more efficiency and "bang for the buck." Martin also says he agrees with Governor Jindal's proposal to allow state colleges and universities to control their own tuitions and fees, in exchange for meeting performance benchmarks. |
