 New Orleans Public Schools Minimize

The Senate Finance Committee approves a measure that would put
10-million dollars toward funding private school tuition for
students in failing New Orleans public schools. Board of
Elementary and Secondary Education member Chaz Roemer says the
failure of Orleans Parish public schools goes back at least 20
years, and there's now an opportunity for today's kids to get their
education right. Shreveport Senator Lydia Jackson says the only schools signed up
thus far to participate in this program are Catholic schools, and
they shouldn't get public money because they aren't administering
high-stakes testing. The measure passed on a 6-4 vote, and heads to the full Senate.
