Foster Farms, who recently acquired the old Pilgrim's Pride chicken
processing plant in Farmerville, says it will NOT extend contracts
to all chicken farmers who previously sold to Pilgrim's Pride.
State Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says that's because a
former Pilgrim's Pride plant in El Dorado, Arkansas is still closed.
Strain says a vast majority of Louisiana chicken farmers will be
under contract--but those who are out of the loop now may well be
back in the game in the foreseeable future if Foster Farms expands
its output at the Farmerville plant.
