New Census For New Orleans
|
 |
|
New U-S Census estimates released today say New Orleans grew faster
than any other large city in America in 2008--8-point-2 percent. Sounds nice,
says New Orleans demographer Greg Rigamer, but in the grand scheme of
things, it's less than the complete truth. The new U-S Census estimate pegs
New Orleans' population as of July 1, 2008 at 311,853. Rigamer says that's
still nearly 36 percent less than the pre-Katrina population of 484,674.
Rigamer says population is a "moving target", and no real declaration of
growth or decline can be made till after the official decennial U-S Census in
2010. |
