The full House of Representatives is scheduled today to debate a bill that repeals the state's mandatory motorcycle helmet law. Though the bill has cleared the House Transportation Committee, opinions are polar. Jim "Poet" Sisco is with American Bikers Active Toward Education. He says the benefit of helmets is not a matter of fact, but more popular opinion. But Caddo Parish Coroner Dr. Todd Toma, who spoke against the bill in committee, says there is plenty of documented helmet research that they can save lives. Sisco says it's a matter of personal freedom, and it's what the people want. Toma disputes claims that the majority of the people want the helmet law to go away.
