Gustav Monitored By Emergency Preparedness Officials

Lafayette Parish President Joey Durel says City-Parish officials are keeping close watch on Tropical Storm Gustav, which is slowly moving over Haiti. Gustav was downgraded overnight to tropical storm status after slamming into Haiti with 90-mile-an-hour top sustained winds. Those winds are down to 60 miles per hour, as of 7 a.m. Forecasters say the storm could regain hurricane strength as it moves over open water tomorrow. The projected path shows Gustav moving into the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend.
