U-L Lafayette's Technology Folks Are Helping The U-S

U-L Lafayette's technology gurus are helping the United States prepare for disasters--natural and man-made. U-L-L officially launches NIMSAT-- National Incident Management Systems--today. Director Dr. Ramesh Kolluru says what they'll be using computers to analyze every possible effect of a disaster, and develop plans to deal with them. Dr. Kolluru says it's much like role-playing computer games--except the scenarios they'll work through are very real possibilities in today's world. Kolluru says these are more than just computer-enhanced disaster drills. He says they'll be looking at every consequence from a hurricane, for example, and then help make the plans that will keep those consequences from becoming separate disasters.
