Just days after voters in voters in Ville Platte and Ward One rejected an 18-point-seven-mill property tax, the parish school board has voted to place another tax proposal on the November 4th ballot in an effort to fund a new Ville Platte High School. The emergency vote was taken Monday night, with the proposal passing, 9-to-3, following a two-hour, closed-door session with legal advisers and a subsequent public comment period. The U.S. Department of Justice has asked the federal court to order the school board to build a new Ville Platte High School, or shut down the school and bus its 400 students elsewhere.
