Gulf Oil Collection Crews "Gaining Ground" On BP Spill

(New Orleans, LA)  --  Coast Guard Rear Admiral Paul Zukunft [[ ZOO-kuhnft ]] is offering some encouraging news about the BP oil spill.  The admiral has announced the "footprint" of oil spilled into the Gulf is now smaller.  He calls July 15th, the day the runaway well was capped and the flow of oil stopped, a "magic day" for him.  He said that since then, cleanup crews have been gaining ground on the spill.  He also announced the surface effort on the Gulf to collect spilled oil is back to 100-percent following Tropical Storm Bonnie.

The admiral said the Coast Guard is still prepared for what he called a "worst case scenario" and will stay on high alert until the broken well is rendered safe.  Earlier Monday, National Incident Commander Thad Allen announced the well could be plugged with cement from the top and bottom in about two weeks.
