Final legislative approval was given Monday to an amended bill that will double the base pay of state lawmakers in Louisiana. By a vote of 20-to-18 the Senate gave a thumbs-up to amended legislation increasing the base pay of House and Senate members to more than 37-thousand dollars a year beginning July 1st. Annual increases will be based on the Consumer Price Index. Senate Bill 672 now heads to Governor Bobby Jindal for his signature. The last word from Jindal is that while he objects to the pay increase, he will not veto the legislation.
