The Senate Health and Welfare Committee takes up debate on repealing Louisiana's mandatory motorcycle helmet law today. The bill boils down to the question of whether helmets save lives, and it contains a component that those choosing to ride without headgear must carry proof of health insurance coverage. Governor Jindal is supporting the repeal of the helmet law--done before in 1999 under Foster and put back in place in 2004 under Blanco.
