 More on Cell Phone Bans

The House Transportation Committee considered yet more bills aimed at restricting cell phone and blackberry use by drivers. Most outspoken in opposition to the measures was Representative Barbara Norton of Shreveport. Norton says she doesn't believe the devices are any more distracting than eating or drinking while driving. Despite that the committee approved both bills. One by Kenner Senator Julie Quinn bans text-messaging by drivers. The other, by Opelousas Senator Don Cravins Jr. prohibits cell-phone use by any driver under 18.
