Lawsuit After Blowout Given Class Action Status
Class-action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against a company whose well blowout forced the closure of much of I-10 between Lafayette and Baton Rouge last November. Attorneys for Silver's Travel Center in Breaux Bridge have filed a federal lawsuit against Texas-based Beusa Energy, seeking damages for lost business resulting from the closure. The attorneys now want to open the case as a class-action suit to more than 200 other businesses and property owners in five parishes. The stretch of I-10 was closed for ten days as crews worked to cap the well, located by the Atchafalaya Basin bridge near Ramah. Beusa Energy avoided another lawsuit earlier this year when it agreed to pay more than 44-thousand-dollars to Lafayette Police officers who performed off-duty work at various I-10 interchanges.
