 Manpower Talks About Employment

The most recent Employment Outlook Survey by Manpower International shows large increases in hiring are expected in Baton Rouge and in Monroe for the second quarter of 2008. Nearly a quarter of all Capital area businesses surveyed plan to increase their workforce. LSU Economist Loren Scott says that's due to LOTS of construction going on. The Manpower survey also shows 37-percent of Monroe area employers indicating they would be hiring more staff over April, May and June. Dr. Scott says that's a mystery to him, as so many businesses in Monroe have shut down lately. Scott doesn't dispute Manpower's report, but says it's pretty peculiar to hear, given Monroe's current economy. However, Scott observes the report does show expected job growth in New Orleans 16-percent of businesses increasing staff, and in Lake Charles.
