A series of bills that provide tax relief for Louisiana businesses easily passed out of a House committee. One of the measures would eliminate the tax on businesses' utility use. One Representative says high utility costs were one factor why Alabama received a large steel mill, instead of Louisiana. Eliminating the business utility tax--effective July 2009--is expected to help both large and small businesses.
