Council To Vote on Back Pay Ordinance

The Lafayette City-Parish Council is slated to vote Tuesday evening on whether to approve a payout of $2.2 million for the plaintiffs in the recently-settled first-responder lawsuit against the city.  The money would be used to pay out the first installment of the $7.5 million back pay settlement for Lafayette police, firefighters and city marshal's employees.  The ordinance would also allow the administration to set aside $2.8 million for plaintiffs who decide to take a one-time payout instead of receiving payments over six years.  Those who choose the lump sum would get two-thirds of the total amount owed to them.  The council is expected to approve the ordinance, which would then go to state District Judge Ed Rubin for final approval.
