Authement Gives Final Speech At Commencement

Retiring University of Louisiana at Lafayette President Ray Authement delivered a final official address during UL's spring 2008 commencement Saturday.  More than 12-hundred graduates received their degrees, including 100-plus from the newly-named Ray P. Authement College of Sciences.  The first graduate from the college under the new name was Philippe Prouet the Second, son of Authement's daughter, Kathy, who's deceased.  During Authement's 34 years as UL president, he helped steer the university into becoming an institution that often garners recognition on a national and international scale.  He'll be succeeded by current state Commissioner of Higher Education, Joseph Savoie.
