 Testing Could Be Done Today

An official with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway says soil and air testing at the derailment site below the Ambassador Caffery Parkway overpass could be finished today. BNSF Spokesman Joe Faust says samples have been taken of the area surrounding the site, at which six cars overturned and one leaked about ten-thousand gallons of hydrochloric acid. Faust says testing of more than a dozen homes in the vicinity has detected no problems with air quality. Officials with the state Department of Environmental Quality say contaminated dirt from the derailment site will be removed and taken to a landfill in Livonia, and replaced with fresh dirt.
