The Lafayette City-Parish Council has approved an emergency ordinance allotting 200-thousand dollars to cover costs associated with emergency response to the Saturday morning train derailment. Police Chief Jim Craft says his department has spent an estimated 63-thousand dollars in personnel costs, and that figure could rise to as much as 100-thousand dollars. Craft says about 100 officers responded to the situation at its peak. Under the ordinance passed Tuesday night, Lafayette Consolidated Government will be able to seek reimbursement from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.
