Residents Return Home But 1000 Foot Radius In Effect
It was welcome news around 6:30 last night when Louisiana State Police, and local law enforcement officials announced all residents evacuated due to a train derailment early Saturday morning could indeed return home. 3,000 people were evacuated in a 1 mile radious of the 6 car train derailment under the Ambassador overpass near Cameron. Officials worked throughout the weekend to neutralize and contain Hydroclauric acid that was spilled from the train. Saturday night I-10 had to be closed in both directions for an hour and a half as Hazmat crews were uprighting one of the derailed cars that had fallen on its side. A radious of 1,000 feet around the crash site is still evacuated effecting some businesses, and the Ambassdor overpass is closed to traffic and will remain closed for several days. You can hear more about that this morning when Bill Fontenot with the Louisiana Department of Transportation joins us in the studio in the 7 o'clock hour today.
